As a home to approximately 1,700 Global Capability Centres (GCCs), India has become the global hotspot for GCC expansions. A recent report by NASSCOM and Zinnov on the GCC India landscape says, the country will likely grow to a USD 58-61 Billion market by FY2025, with 1,900-2,000+ GCCs. This will have a direct impact on not only the country’s employment which is estimated to reach 1.8 to 2 million+ in FY2025. On the other hand, this could bring the tech ecosystem much closer, thus impacting the quality of education and training of the new-age workforce, and reskilling of existing talent.

Many Global Capability Centers (GCCs) began their migration to a new normal following the pandemic in 2021, based on more vigorous support for the GCC model, expanded functions beyond conventional workstreams, and increased use of digital technology. However, with the need to recalibrate strategies with the changing retail ecosystem, GCCs will need to keep up with the technological advancements changing dynamics, and the blurring lines between the physical and digital world.

American retail company Lowe’s that specialises in home improvement and runs a chain of over 1,700 offline and online stores in the US, is betting big on the India market. The company had set up its Global Capability Centre in India nearly a decade back and has come a long way from providing operational support to now building cutting-edge technology products and solutions. In an interview with TechCircle, Neelima Sharma, SVP Digital Commerce and Technology, Lowe’s Inc, explains how the company’s India centre leverages technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins (AI) and data analytics to enhance customer experience.
